Mumbai & Magnificent Ajanta Ellora Caves

The “Mumbai & Magnificent Ajanta Ellora Caves” tour is an interesting tour, which covers the modern hustle bustle of the city of Mumbai and ancient caves temples in Maharashtra – Ajanta & Ellora Caves and the Elephanta Caves. Deemed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, these Caves were built a long time ago with some of them dating back to 450 CE.

Day 00 : Departure from UK

Departure from UK to begin your holiday experience

Day 01 : Arrive Mumbai

The tour starts at Mumbai, rightly termed as the city of dreams. You will be accompanied by our representative who will assist you to the hotel.

 

Mumbai, the financial hub of India, is also known as City that never sleeps. The never ending hustling chaos and the innate energy amongst its inhabitants is the spirit of the city.

 

In Mumbai you will visit the Marine Drive, which looks like a Queen’s Necklace past twilight. Other spots you will cover include Coloba shopping street, among others.

Day 02 : Mumbai - City tour / Elephanta Caves

On this day after breakfast, you will take a ferry to visit the Elephanta Caves certified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, located on an island in the Arabian Sea. The Elephanta island, where the caves are located is still among the island that doesn’t yet have electricity.

 

The Elephanta Caves comprise of two groups of temples — five Hindu caves and two Buddhist caves. The caves were designated World Heritage site by the UNESCO in 1987. Hindu Caves are made up of rock cut sculptures that represent Shaiva and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. All the caves were built before the 8th century. The Main Cave in the Hindu Caves is The Great Cave. The other group i.e. the Buddhist Caves consists of the smaller section of the Elephanta Caves.

 

You will also witness the ports in Mumbai. Princess Dock, Mumbai Port Trust, and Gateway of India. The Gateway of India structure was built to commemorate the landing of King George V and Queen Mary at Apollo Bunder.

Day 03 : Mumbai - Bollywood Tour

Mumbai is also known for Bollywood, the biggest movie industry in the world in terms of the amount of people employed and number of films produced. You will travel to Goregaon Film city located in the suburbs of Mumbai, where you will witness live shooting of some of the upcoming movies. The Bollywood Tour will take you through some of the famous studios and sets of Serials and Movies. Backed by the lush green cover of Sanjay Gandhi National Park, it forms the perfect backdrops for most of the movie scenes. You may also have an opportunity to visit some of the greatest Studios in Film City such as Dadasaheb Phalke, Chitranagri and others. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 04 : Fly Mumbai / Aurangabad - Aurangabad City and Ellora Caves

After breakfast, you will take the flight to Aurangabad. Also known as the City of Gates, Aurangabad has been declared as the tourism capital of Maharashtra.

 

On this day you will drive to Ellora caves, which are located about one hour away from Aurangabad. Ellora Caves were declared by UNESCO as World Heritage Site. The Caves comprise of 34 caves that were carved out of Charanandi Hills.  It has Buddhist, Hindu, and Jain rock-cut Temples which were built in between 5th and 10th century.  After exploring the Ellora Caves, you will drive back to Aurangabad City to your hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 05 : Aurangabad - Visit Ajanta Caves

On our second day in Aurangabad, after breakfast, drive to the Ajanta Caves which are located at the tip of Gautala Wildlife Sanctuary. It takes 3 hours to drive through the terrain. Ajanta Caves forms the major attraction in Maharashtra since they were rediscovered in 1819 by a British Officer.

 

The Ajanta Caves that were built in around 480 or 650 CE and the beautiful paintings and artwork inside of the caves are still intact. The Caves comprise of 30 rock-cut Buddhist Caves that include sculptures and paintings. The caves are understood to have housed several hundreds of monks at its prime.

 

You may also be able to visit other attractions in Aurangabad including the Bibi Ka Maqbara, Panchakki, Naukhanda Palace, etc.

Day 06 : Fly Aurangabad / Mumbai

You will take a flight to Mumbai which is about 1-hour long journey by Air. This is a free day to explore the city and its night life independently.

Day 07 : Departure from Mumbai

This day you will be transferred to the Mumbai airport for your onward journey.

The tour starts with your arrival in Mumbai, the financial capital of India. In Mumbai you will visit popular places like Marine Drive, the Gateway of India, Colaba, amongst other local experiences like the Dhobi Ghats, a unique insight into the life of Mumbai.

 

You will visit the Elephanta Caves, located about 10km away from Mumbai. The caves are located on a small island called Elephanta and one needs to take a ferry from the Gateway of India to reach there. The island houses two groups of caves — five Hindu caves and two Buddhist caves. The caves were designated World Heritage site by the UNESCO in 1987.

 

The highlight of the tour are the famous caves of Maharastra — the Ajanta & Ellora caves in Aurangabad. There are close to about 30-rock-cut Buddhists caves, which date back to the 2nd century. The paintings inside the caves are recognised as the finest surviving examples of Indian art. The paintings figure Buddhist religious art depictions of the Jataka tales.
