When you think of India, you are reminded about the marvellous Taj Mahal and various other grand palaces elsewhere in the country. However, India also has hill stations, beautiful valleys and small heritage villages in the Himalayan region, which catches the imaginative eyes of the travellers. These hills and valleys were used by the British as their summer retreats during the British Raj.

From the relentless and profoundly elevating tops of Himalayas in the North to the reviving emerald backwoods of the Nilgiris in the Western Ghats, hill stations in India are your ideal getaway from the sweltering summers.

In this tour you will visit a plethora of monuments, sights, villages and country side, among others in the northern state of Himachal Pradesh in the foothills of the Himalayans and the Dhauladhar mountain ranges and the city of Amristar in Punjab which is the epitome of the Sikh religion and is equally important to the history of India and the British Rule.

Every political party has it’s root here and historically Delhi is also known as Indraprathas which was capital of Pandavas in Mahabharata.

There are many historical stories hidden about the Mughals, Raja’s and Maharaja’s. Be it, the famous India Gate, Lotus temple, the beautiful Swami Narain Mandir, huge Qutub Minar, the Red fort and the list is endless. These forts and ancient buildings reveal a true story and if you have sheer will to know the nuances, although a day is not enough for you.

You will visit Amritsar, formerly known as Ramdaspur, because it was founded by Ramdas in 1577. It is also the administrative centre for the state of Punjab. The city is famous for carpets, goat hair which are used in making of fabrics and handicraft items and you will have ample room for the foodie travellers as they can enjoy rich cultural cuisine here. The Wagah Border, in the small town of Wagah, is a border of two nations India and Pakistan. The changing of the guard ceremony, which happens every day two hours before sunset, is a memorable experience to look forward to. This ceremony is conducted by Border Security Force (India) and Pakistan Rangers (Pakistan).  In this ceremony you can see some high quality marching, loud sounds and sporadic wide eyes. You won’t find this amazing experience anywhere else around the globe.

Then you will visit Kangra (district of Himachal Pradesh) formerly known as Bhagsu. It is also the home town of the famous Tibetan Buddhist icon – the Dalai Lama who evangelised Buddhism across the world. Nearby, the Dhauladhar mountains make a dazzling setting. With its stable atmosphere, simple access and rich vegetation, Pragpur and its environment offer a perfect area for Village Tourism.

Once the Summer Capital of British India, Shimla is really an impeccable spot. Presently the capital of Himachal Pradesh, it is a Hill station up north, offering an extraordinary perspective. The place still has the touch of British engineering. Unlike elsewhere in India, Shimla has exceptionally cool temperatures. The lavish green Hills and the snow trapped mountains stand tall, making it extremely picturesque.

Resting at the foothills of the majestic Himalayas is Shimla, the queen of hill stations and once the summer capital of the British Raj. Shimla was the most important British hill resort, prior to India’s independence. It is named after its patron goddess, Shamla Devi, a manifestation of Kali.
